Last autumn, you shared what matters most to you about Eccles and how you would like the town centre to change. Your feedback has directly shaped a draft masterplan, setting out clear priorities for the town centre to support Eccles’s long-term success.
Alongside physical changes and interventions, the draft masterplan also explores how regeneration can deliver everyday benefits for Eccles – supporting local businesses, improving access, and helping create opportunities for local people as plans progress. As the proposals develop, we’ll continue working with local partners to focus on benefits that are rooted in Eccles and reflect what matters most to the community.
The focus of the draft masterplan is on bringing life back to Eccles, starting with Church Street as the town’s main high street. It also looks at how the wider town centre can better support everyday life, alongside improvements to connections and key links that help Eccles work as a whole.

The masterplan sets out the overall direction, principles and opportunities for change in the town centre. It shows how different elements (such as shops, homes, public spaces and routes) can work together over time. It is not a detailed building design or a final planning application, and so it does not fix every detail at this stage.
This stage of the community conversation is focused on understanding whether the draft masterplan reflects the priorities you shared previously, and whether the overall direction feels right for Eccles Town Centre.
Eccles’ story stretches back to the 14th century – a town built on community, craftsmanship and innovation.
As regeneration gathers pace and investment is secured, there’s a real opportunity to celebrate and enhance the heritage that makes Eccles special, ensuring its character and history inspire this bold new chapter.
About EcclesThe future of Eccles Town Centre is being shaped together with its community. In October 2025, we asked what you wanted from the town and what was important to you.
We are now using your feedback to bring forward more developed and joined-up plans to regenerate Eccles town centre. The draft masterplan sets out proposals for the town centre and longer-term changes for the wider area. We are now inviting your views on whether this is the right direction.
